Senator Abeler directed legislative staff to begin drafting the Disability Independence Act, Lydia met with bill drafters, testified before a Senate committee, and the meeting led to a direct outreach from Senator Hoffman.

On March 21, 2026 at 11:00 AM, Lydia and her friend Alma sat down with Senator Jim Abeler. This meeting exceeded every expectation.

Senator Abeler immediately directed legislative staff — the people who write bills — to begin formally drafting the Disability Independence Act. A follow-up meeting with those drafters happened the same day.

Senator Abeler then asked Lydia to testify before a Senate committee, sharing her personal experience of losing home care services. Her testimony was powerful, direct, and made an impact.

Within hours, Senator John Hoffman personally emailed to request a meeting about the Disability Independence Act — a direct result of the day's testimony and advocacy.

This is the moment the campaign has been working toward. The Disability Independence Act is officially in the drafting process.
